Us Two Tea was founded by Maggie Xue, who founded her company based on the idea that tea is meant to celebrate connections and relationships. The name, “Us Two”, means two of us, furthering their desire to have tea foster relationships.
Xue founded Us Two after realizing that despite tea being a large part of asain culture, however, the majority of tea brands are not AAPI owned. Xue wanted to create a company that shared the values she grew up with, and to share the love of tea she fostered at an early age. She hopes that Us Two can encourage the next generation to be confident about their culture and stay true to who they are(company website).
Us Two uses natural ingredients from three family owned farms in Taiwan. This choice was for two main reasons. First, its the highest quality ingredients, with Xue explaining that Tawainese tea is considered the “champagne of teas”. The second reason goes back to their core goals; all of the farms were hand selected based on their organic farming practices and their love for tea and what they create. Now that you know a little more about the company, let's get into the review.
I want to preface this by saying that I am not typically a tea drinker. My typical routine includes maybe one coffee a day, but no other hot beverages. But after hearing the Us Two story, I decided to venture into the world of teas by getting myself the Baozhong tea: family tradition flavored tea bags. Upon receiving my tea, I was instantly greeted with a pleasant aroma. The ingredients filled my house with a great scent, making me excited to try Us Two.
The flavor itself was a little sweet, which I enjoyed. It was almost a floral taste, with hints of another flavor I couldn’t quite put my finger on(if you have tried the tea let us know your thoughts on the flavor). Despite not normally going for tea, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I typically only drink one cup of coffee a day; I replaced that with two teas throughout the day to see if it could replace my cup of joe. I might have felt like I had a little less energy, but it was not significant enough for me to feel like it wouldn't be a feasible replacement. So for you tea drinkers out there, see if you like the taste of Us Two.
This tea really felt like a steal in terms of price. In total, I got five teabags for a total of 8.50 USD. Because I am not a regular in the tea market, I let a few colleagues try Us Two as well, and they all agreed that it was a great bang for your buck. It really feels like you are getting high quality ingredients for an inexpensive price!
For all you tea lovers, or those who want to try something new, give Us Two a try!
